Our Story

A Word from L!FE President & Founder, Amy Nederlander

Dear Parents and Detroit Community,

It is an honor to be working with your children and Detroit’s youth to empower their voice, self-confidence and professional skills through training and working in the community. Building professional relationships within Detroit’s revitalization now, to empower students future careers, and life in general, is a key pillar of our work. It is exciting to see so much growth and networking into real opportunity by our students, and we want you to know about it! We are thrilled to be launching L!FE Leaders, Inc. Monthly Newsletter to keep you posted on exciting developments in our students personal growth, as well as events and opportunities for you and your families to participate.

The name of our organization is L!FE Leaders, Inc.

L!FE = Leadership Fueled by Entrepreneur-ISM (the ISM =  ‘building you’)

Entrepreneur-ISM = The Ability & Audacity to Achieve

The best way for us to represent our work is through the voice of our students, and those they work with.  I would be most appreciative if you watched a student-made music video about their L!FE experienceswritten, directed and produced by L!FE students.

Feedback from students, educators and guest speakers can be found on our Endorsements page, while press highlighting our program and inaugural fundraising event last year can be found on our Press page.

It is so important to me, and all of us, that we emphasize this feedback to you, because the amazing support we are receiving is due to the phenomenal work of your children.

Detroit’s youth will continue actively participating in Detroit’s revitalization as they secure their position in Detroit’s future! Bravo to Detroit’s emerging adults!

A Little Background On Us…

L!FE Leaders Inc. is a 501c3 founded in 2018 with a mission to empower youth to empower their future and the future of Detroit. Co-founders, Amy Nederlander and Michaela Murphy, envisioned a flourishing Detroit where we invest in our youth by offering them workforce development training that fosters the next generation of Detroit professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Our founders’ vision has advanced through two experiential youth development programs, Excellence Corps and Youth Summit. In just a few years, L!FE Leaders has scaled its programs exponentially, from fewer than ten students in our first cohort, to 30 youth in 2019-20. Each student participating in L!FE programs is a part-time paid employee, allowing students to hurdle the financial constraints of attending unpaid experiential learning opportunities and internships.
