Toby Barlow

is a writer and entrepreneur who has thirty years of experience working with some of the strongest brands in the world. He currently runs Lafayette American, a strategy and marketing agency based in Detroit. For over ten years he was the global creative director running the Ford Motor Company account for WPP. Previous to that, he worked at JWT on Merrill Lynch, Sun Microsystems, Kraft, and Kimberly Clark. At TBWA Chiat\Day he worked on Absolut Vodka, Barnes & Noble and New York Life. He began his career in San Francisco at Hal Riney & Partners where he worked on the launch of Saturn Cars and Mirage Resorts. He is the author of two internationally acclaimed novels and his writing has appeared in The New York Times, Salon, and The Paris Review. He is the co-founder of Signal Return Press, Write A House, and Vote Solar. He is co-owner of Nora Modern and Gold Cash Gold. He graduated from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM with a major in math and philosophy.
